Polda Supports City to Enforce Vehicle Garage Obligation

Metro Jaya Polda Deputy Head, Brigjen Suntana, conveyed his support regarding Jakarta Government's plan which requires garage ownership for all vehicle owners.

He said, Article 140 of Perda No. 5/2014 enforcement is not contradictory with UU No. 22/2009 about Traffic.
"This is great to make all in order and police will support fully," he expressed, Wednesday (9/13).
Vehicle Owner Who Does Not Have Garage is Suggested to Rent a LandHe added, policy which required vehicle owners to have garage is actually has been applied in other countries.
"We also learn from other countries, such as in Japan, people must show that they have garage before buy a vehicle. For the implementation, we will wait for governor's order," he stated.
Jakarta Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidayat affirmed, his side is not intended to limit people in having vehicle. But, it just needs to ensure the vehicle owners have garage thus not parking illegally.
"Local government and police task is to realize public order," he expressed.
He added, vehicle owners must also attach a garage possession letter from RT/RW and local urban village to get vehicle registration (STNK) from police.
"But currently, regulation that requires vehicle owner to have garage is still on socialization. But if the vehicle itself is considered really disturbing, then we will tow it," he closed.
